New 10K event for Hemel Hemstead
With support from Dacorum Borough Council and the Maylands Business Park, Rennie Grove Hospice Care is launching a new sponsored 10K running event for Hemel Hempstead to raise funds to support the services it provides in the local community. Taking place on Sunday 12 July 2015, the Hemel 10K will also feature a 1.5K Superhero Fun Run aimed at families.
Colin Ivey, Corporate Partnership Manager at Rennie Grove Hospice Care, explained:
"Most other local towns have a big running event like the half marathons in St Albans and Berkhamsted and the Herts 10K in Harpenden, but there is nothing on this scale in Hemel. As 2015 is the tenth anniversary of the Buncefield disaster and also sees Rennie Grove reach the milestone of providing 30 Years of Care for local people with life-limiting illness, it seems particularly appropriate to launch the event this year. There has been a massive amount of regeneration in the town since Buncefield and an event like this will help bring the town together to celebrate this, as well as raising funds to support the increasing number of people who need our care in the local community."
Rennie Grove will draw on their ten years’ experience of organising the Herts 10K in Harpenden which attracts 3,000 participants every year. Events Manager Ruth Proudfoot said:
"We are so excited to be launching the Hemel 10K and the Superhero Fun Run and we hope the people of Hemel will really get behind this event. The 10K will follow a picturesque multi-terrain route and with all runners wearing a timing chip, it will offer something for serious runners as well as those that want to try the distance for the first time. The 1.5K Superhero Fun Run is a distance that virtually everyone can manage and we are looking forward to seeing families decked out in bright and colourful costumes enjoying the occasion and helping raise money to benefit others in their local community."
The Hemel 10K and 1.5K Superhero Fun Run will take place at Astley Cooper School in the Cupid Green area of Hemel, just a short distance from the Maylands Business Park. The 10K will start at 10.30am and the Fun Run at 10am. It costs £20 to enter the 10k which will include chip timing, a technical t-shirt, a medal and water at stations along the route. The Fun Run is £5 to enter and participants will be given a medal at the finish line. Children under one year go free and all participants are asked to raise as much sponsorship money as possible to help fund the work Rennie Grove does in the local community.
Family and friends are encouraged to come along and support the runners and there will be children’s activities to keep the little ones entertained.
Colin added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for those who live and work in Hemel to come together and celebrate all that has been achieved in Hemel in the last 10 years and to help raise money those in the local community who will need support from Rennie Grove in the future. With the numbers of people needing care predicted to rise steeply in the coming years, this is a great way to ensure that those living in Hemel will continue to receive the very best hospice care."
