Community groups encouraged to support Rennie Groovy Shoes Day 2015

groovy shoes schools imageScouts, Guides, Brownies, schools, pubs, play groups, sports teams, book groups, choirs etc are all being asked to join the fun on Friday 19 June and help raise funds as well as awareness of the care the charity provides in the local community for patients diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illness and their families.

In 2014 activities that supporters took part in included a welly throwing contest, colouring competition, sponsored walks, cake sales and even men wearing ladies shoes for the day! Groups are being encouraged to be creative in how they take part and Rennie Grove can provide balloons, posters, collection tins and stickers to support your activities.

For those who wish to test their grey matter, Rennie Grove has prepared a shoe-related quiz, so one idea might be to organise a quiz night for your group and have an entertaining evening while helping to raise funds at the same time.

There will also be a Groovy Shoes Quiz at Grove House in Waverley Road, St Albans on Friday 19 June at 7pm. Entry is £10 per person which includes pizza and a drink. There will also be a prize for the person wearing the grooviest shoes. Call 01727 731028 to book your teams of up to six people.

Schools that have already signed-up to wear groovy shoes on the day include: Camp School and Abbey Primary in St Albans, Grove Road School in Tring, Bearbrook School in Aylesbury and Kings Wood School in High Wycombe.

Schools and other groups can also help the charity spread the word about Rennie Groovy Shoes Day and anyone who wishes to take part is encouraged to wear their grooviest shoes in return for a donation. This year the charity has set up a special text number where anyone can make a donation of £1 by texting SHOE15 £1 to 70070.

Nicola MacKinnon, Rennie Grove Community Fundraising Manager, explains: “Rennie Groovy Shoes Day is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the care we give patients in the local community and we really hope that schools and community groups will get involved in the day. We would love to hear from anyone interested in taking part and would be happy to discuss different ideas that might appeal to particular schools or groups.”
