Reach new heights and make a difference

Dare yourself to reach new heights by wing walking in aid of our services to patients with life limiting illness and their families.

We have places available for fundraisers to take to the skies and experience the thrill of a real bird’s eye view of life while strapped securely to a brightly-coloured biplane.

This out of the ordinary challenge takes place on Sunday 8 July at Damyns Hall, Essex, under the watchful care of the Aerobatic Tactics team.

Rennie Grove health care assistant Hannah Briggs was one of the daring thrill seekersHannah Briggs at the Wing Walk to take part last year, and says: “It was amazing, such a great experience.  I would do it again tomorrow.”

Hannah added: “I was a bit apprehensive at first, but you soon forget all about the fact that you are strapped to the top of a plane and just enjoy it.

“It was the most incredible feeling; it was really windy and you can see so far – I think I could see London in the distance.”

Hannah took part along with Rennie Grove nursing colleagues Sadie Hall and Tessa Mannering. “It was wonderful being there with everyone on the day and being involved, and raising money for Rennie Grove,” said Hannah.

“Wing walking was never something I had thought about doing, and I had never done anything like it before. But it was so brilliant that it has given me a push to do something else like it again.”

You too could discover your inner adventurer by joining the Rennie Grove wing walkers. All safety equipment and the information you need is provided by Aerobatic Tactics – the only company in the UK who allow you to do this challenge as a fundraising experience, so please consider doing this challenge for Rennie Grove.

The upper weight limit for the walk is 12st 2lb (77kgs) and the age limit is 65, but you can fly up to 75years of age with a GP’s declaration of good health.

You can take part in the walk with as many or as few people as you'd like, so spread the word and get a team together; visit www.renniegrove.org/wingwalk for full details.

You will need to raise a minimum of £600 sponsorship (approx £300 of this goes to Rennie Grove services, the rest covers the cost of the event).

But if staying attached to a plane is not your thing, you could try jumping from one instead with our sponsored tandem skydive challenge on Sunday 10 June.

Nurse Katie Stanyon (pictured, left) took the fundraising plunge last summer and says that theskydive team 2017 experience was so amazing that everyone should have a go.

“The day was surprisingly emotional. My family and friends were there to support me and on the way up I was not nervous or scared – I was just thinking what a lovely thing to be able to do, thinking about all my brave patients and families that I have the privilege to care for. I was doing it for them.”

The minimum amount of sponsorship to raise for the tandem skydive is £400 (approx £200 goes to Rennie Grove and the rest covers the costs of the jump). You can choose to either cover the costs yourself or raise all of the costs by sponsorship, but you must make this clear when approaching sponsors.

To help you raise funds for either challenge Rennie Grove can provide you with a range of sponsorship materials, including sponsorship forms, a fundraising web page, business cards, posters and lots of friendly, helpful advice.
