A crisis for our nursing teams

As the number of patient referrals increases and many of those patients have multiple medical conditions making their care more complex, the need for our nursing services is greater than ever. As our nursing teams are already working at full capacity we find that two of our nursing teams in Bucks are in the frustrating position of having to prioritise new referrals and effectively operate a patient waiting list - which is not a situation we ever wish to be in.

Sadie Hall, a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Rennie Grove says: "In our line of work there is no time to wait: an immediate response is crucial if we are to help patients remain at home, surrounded by the people and things they love. If we can't react straight away - it might be too late to prevent someone dying in hospital when they really want to be at home."

Help us fund an additional nurse like Sam

We urgently need to recruit a new nurse like Sam who is not only a highly skilled palliative care nurse but who also has extra qualities that set her (or him) apart as a Rennie Grove nurse. She is a kind-hearted person who goes the extra mile to ensure patients have the best possible quality of life up until and during their final days. She is a practical and steady person who stays strong for the family and friends of her patients. Above all, Sam has infinite empathy for the families she meets. Without Sam there would be families who have to face the harrowing prospect of cancer or life-limiting illness alone.

Your support will help more patients like Linda

Linda 2David's beloved wife Linda was cared for by Rennie Grove nurses after years of battling cancer. David remembers: "It was the most difficult and terrible period of my life, but also in many ways the most uplifting. I saw amazing people at work and the simple fact of people helping others at the most vulnerable point in their lives gave me faith in humanity.”  Read more.

The difference your donation could make

Your donation will bring us one step closer to reaching our £36,000 target, here's how your gift will help:

£25 could pay for an hour of specialist nursing care in a patient's home giving patients a choice about how and where they receive care at the end of their lives.

£50 could fund the cost of a first assessment visit to a Hospice at Home patient to understand their needs and wishes and draw up a personal care plan.

£187.50 could cover a standard shift for one specialist Hospice at Home nurse, visiting patients in their own homes to ensure that families feel supported and patients' symptoms can be brought under control.

Any gift that you can make will be greatly appreciated. We promise that 100% of donations made to this appeal will be spent on nursing salaries. Thank you.

The costs above are based on average nursing costs, actual nursing costs can vary depending on shift patterns and salary bands.

Thank you so much your support
