Specialist Nurse Clinic

What is it?

Our Specialist Nurse Clinic is designed to provide patients with access to specialist care whilst maintaining independence.  The emphasis will be on giving you control and helping you to manage your own health and wellbeing.

Our Specialist Nurse Clinic offers:

  • Ongoing monitoring and management of symptoms and conditions
  • Specialist advice on side-effects from treatment
  • Ongoing support, including coping strategies and psychological support
  • Sign-posting to other appropriate services

Who can use this service?

To use this service, you need to be registered with a GP surgery within St Albans, Harpenden or Dacorum and have received a palliative diagnosis or have a life-limiting illness.

How do I get referred?

Any healthcare professional involved in your care, including your GP, can refer you to the Specialist Nurse Clinic. However if you are already known to Rennie Grove, you can be referred by a member of staff. Alternatively you can come to our Drop-in Session on a Tuesday morning between 9am and 1pm when our nurses will be able to advise you and assess you for this service.

What happens during a typical visit?

Your appointment will take up to an hour and will give you the opportunity to discuss your condition and your symptoms with a specialist nurse and receive advice on medications and your overall wellbeing.

When is the Specialist Nurse Clinic available?

The Specialist Nurse Clinic takes place every Tuesday afternoon.  All appointments need to be pre-arranged.

Where is the Specialist Nurse Clinic?

The Specialist Nurse Clinic is at Grove House which is located next to St Albans City Hospital.

How will I get there?

Please make your own way to the appointment.  However, if this is difficult for you please discuss it with a member of staff and we may be able to arrange transport.

What does it cost?

Like all Rennie Grove services, the Specialist Nurse Clinic is provided at no cost to patients or their families.  As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of the local community to fund around 85% of our annual running costs, allowing us to care for thousands of patients and families every year.
