What our patients say

Providing services which meet our patients' needs is really important to us.

Read what a selection of our patients have to say about what we do.

Connie's story

“... I cannot speak highly enough of the care and support I have received, both from the NHS and voluntary services, as well as my wonderful neighbours, friends family...”

Connie, 89, was diagnosed initially with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) and was later diagnosed with cancer of the throat too. She told us: “People seem to spend all their time complaining these days. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and support I have received, both from the NHS and voluntary services, as well as my wonderful neighbours, friends family and - and I want people to know that.”

Connie praised her own GP and the doctors and nurses at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood, both for the speed of her diagnosis and the quality of the care she experienced. She also called Rennie Grove a "lifesaver" because of the care and support the charity offers.

Rennie Grove clinicians supported Connie in our Day Hospice at Grove House and Connie found the weekly visits a huge help: “I live alone and can sometimes feel isolated, especially when my breathing becomes difficult. It is a tonic to talk to other patients and the nurses assess me and help me with coping strategies every time I visit.”

Connie also received visits at home through our Grove House at Home service. “The hospice has been a life saver for me,” she continued, “The wonderful nurses and volunteers have time to listen and really care. They organise lifts for me to and from the hospice and Adrian, the lovely chef at Grove House, prepares delicious lunches – nothing is too much trouble.”

Connie concluded: “People should know that society is not all bad, there is wonderful support out there and many kind and generous people who give their time freely to help others."
