Local companies support Christmas appeal

Late last year we appealed to local businesses to consider funding a night of care by our Hospice at Home teams over the Christmas period and we have been bowled over by the response, which raised over £50,000.

It costs £721 per night to deliver our hallmark Hospice at Home service which provides patients with the care and support they need right through the night, helping to keep local people at home and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.

Rennie Grove night team nurse, Liz, sheds some light on what the service provides:

“Nights are very different to days. People don’t call a nurse in the middle of the night unless there’s a crisis so you never know how a situation might unfold. That’s why a 24-hour service is so vital.

“Every night’s different but typically we might make between 3 and 5 visits. Recently we had a very challenging evening with 10 calls. That night we covered 157 miles to get to all the patients who needed us.

“We couldn’t continue to provide this 24/7 service without the support of the local people and businesses who fundraise for us, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the corporate supporters who funded nights of care via our Christmas Wish appeal.”

Churchill Group, based in Harpenden, is one of the local companies that responded to Rennie Grove’s appeal by funding 10 nights of care.

Joel Briggs, Group CEO at Churchill Group, says:

“We are extremely proud to have supported Rennie Grove’s Christmas appeal this year. Each year, its specialist care ensures that patients can be at home with their loved ones over the festive period and we were delighted to play our part in making that happen again this Christmas.”

Another local company that joined the appeal was P B Donoghue, which supported the campaign by funding an incredible 14 nights of care.

If you own or work for a company, you could help Rennie Grove by becoming a corporate supporter. Whether it’s a Charity of the Year partnership, using company volunteering days to give your time, or corporate fundraising you’re interested in, you can find out more here.
