More than 1,500 incredible volunteers give up their time on a regular basis to help in every aspect of our work saving us in the region of £1.5 million every year. Without their dedication, we wouldn't be able to support all the families that need us. The sheer scope of their commitment is truly humbling and we can't thank them enough.
Volunteers are integral to the successful running of our organisation. Here is a flavour of the roles carried out by our team of amazing volunteers:
On your feet
From helping in one of our busy shops or sorting donations at our Distribution Centre, helping us raise over £2 million ever year, to using your DIY skills or enjoying the outdoor life volunteering as a gardener to supporting our Day Care services you are a vital and essential part of our volunteer community.
At a desk
Should you visit any of our four bases either in Tring, Berkhamsted, Chalfont St Giles or St Albans you will receive a warm and friendly greeting from a member of our efficient and loyal reception volunteers.
Other desk based administration roles requiring specific skills to ensure the smooth running of the charity are wide and varied – such as item listing with our eBay team raising significant funds through our busy charity auction site or with our Community Fundraisers supporting the promotion of our Groovy Shoes Day.
You will receive training and ongoing support from your line manager helping you to get the most out of the time you have to give with the knowledge that you are making a difference.
Out and About
From collecting donations outside your local supermarket for an hour or so to helping at our community events or marshalling at our active events, this is a great way to volunteer if you are unsure about making a regular commitment.
Once you have completed a simple Volunteer Application ( which can be done by email) we then stay in touch with you by monthly emails and you can sign up to help event by event.
Alternatively our driving roles are also a great way to help either with our retail and trading distribution team, as a Social Support Driver or with our Day Care Hospice volunteer driving team transporting patients. Great roles if you enjoy people and helping on a regular basis.
With Patients and Families
Volunteer roles enhance the lives of many of our thousands of patients and carers every year, whether by ensuring they enjoy their day at Grove House, by providing a complementary therapy in their home or by offering support for patients.
Our Family Support Volunteers provide support to patients, carers, family members and close friends, from diagnosis, during treatment and bereavement, in accordance with Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Vision, Mission and Values.
Experts and Professionals
Our Board of Trustees jointly have a wide-ranging input into the strategic direction of the charity and bring specific, professional skills to support the continuing growth of the charity and help us to be a professional and efficient organisation.
And there are occasions when we seek individuals with very key, specific skills to help us in a variety of different ways.
