Rennie Grove Hospice Care is recruiting to three different volunteer roles to expand the charity’s Family Support Services. Without volunteers, there would be no Family Support.
We’re currently looking for:
- Listeners - empathetic and caring people who are willing to learn active and supportive listening.
One of our volunteer listeners, May Crawford, truly believes anybody has the ability to help through listening: “I was talked into attending the training course to become a Listener, it was a really good preparation for the role...giving us plenty of role-playing opportunities to build our confidence...You don’t need specific skills for it. You just need to be able to listen and be caring, compassionate and understanding about how people feel." Read May's full story here.
- Counsellors - people with a Level 4 Counselling qualification and membership of a governing body such as BACP. Rachel Capp is one of our counsellors who works with patients, families and carers. She understands how important it is to help by communicating: "Essentially what we provide is a safe environment for people to talk to help them deal with the situation they are currently facing." Read more about the kind of help Rachel provides here.
- Trained therapists to offer complementary therapy treatments in people’s homes. Some of our therapists, like Chris Kennedy, have continued to be a complementary therapist for Rennie Grove following retirement: “I am really passionate about the importance of offering complementary therapy to our patients and carers. Having seen first-hand over a period of many years the real benefits that complementary therapy has and how well it works with orthodox medicine and treatments, I am really committed to ensuring that this service continues."
