Question of Sport quiz scores hat-trick

IMG_8734mrRennie Grove’s third annual Question of Sport Quiz and Charity Dinner raised a record £42,000 at Sopwell House last Week (Thursday March 3).  250 guests representing more than 25 companies from St Albans and the surrounding areas enjoyed a three-course dinner, lively auction and interactive sports quiz.

The night was hosted by Sky’s Premier League Reporter, Geoff Shreeves, a long-standing supporter of Rennie Grove who has hosted all three of the charity’s Question of Sport Charity Dinners in St Albans.  He has also organised a Charity Golf Day and run the Herts 10k to raise funds.  He’s now helping the fundraising team with their Buckinghamshire version of this event taking place on Thursday November 3 at Wycombe Wanderers Football Club.  On Thursday night, he once again compered a very successful auction, making the most of his local knowledge to persuade as many guests as possible to part with their hard-earned cash to push the main auction proceeds over £20,000.

The Question of Sport quiz formed the focus for the evening, with guests using keypads to answer questions displayed on a large screen.  Estate Agents Collinson Hall teamed up with DLA Town Planning to defend their 2015 title successfully.

Thanks to guests’ generosity, the support of headline sponsors Aitchison Raffety and the help of volunteers from Red Door Recruitment and the Red Squirrel Brewery Company, the event looks set to bring in more than £42,000 towards the charity’s 24/7 responsive nursing service in patients’ homes and day services at Grove House.

Director of Fundraising & Marketing for Rennie Grove, Gillian Barnett, said: “We’re thrilled that, thanks to the huge support from corporates in the St Albans area, revenue from this event has nearly trebled during the three years we’ve been holding it. £42,000 will fund a Rennie Grove nurse for more than 12 months, offering specialist care to hundreds of local patients with cancer and other life-limiting illness and helping to keep them at home surrounded by their loved ones.”
