Try a Triathlon with Mayor’s challenge

Alan Mackinnon and SonCouncillor Salih Gaygusuz has teamed up with Westminster Lodge – Everyone Active to host the annual Mayor’s City Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 15 May, raising funds for Rennie Grove Hospice Care. Comprising a 5km cycle (on indoor stationary cycling machines), a 200m swim (8 lengths of an indoor pool) and 3km off-road run, the event is ideal for first-time triathletes.  And if you don't fancy taking on all three disciplines yourself, a relay option is available so you can share the load in a team of up to three.

Rennie Grove Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Gillian Barnett, said: “Your entry fee covers the cost of putting on the event and includes a t-shirt and certificate, full route signage and marshalling.  It is your sponsorship money that makes a difference to local patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families so please raise as much as you can.  We haven’t set a minimum sponsorship amount - but it would be great if everyone taking part could raise £50.  If 100 people signed up we could raise enough to fund 250 hours of specialist nursing care in patients’ homes or at Grove House.”

Lesley Garner, Everyone Active General Manager at Westminster Lodge, added: “The Mayor’s City Sprint Triathlon was a huge success last year and is set to be even bigger and better this year. We have had a good number of people sign up for the race already and we hope to see more local residents sign up and give the triathlon a try.”

Children aged 12 and over are invited to take part too – and for younger siblings (10 and under) 'Fit for Sport' will be on site offering fun, sporty activities such as throwing the bean bag and a bouncy castle. Sign up online here before May 6 to be allocated your ‘wave’ or start time in advance.*
