Ed Suttie from St Albans embarked on a trip of a lifetime last month, and we’re delighted to say that he completed the trek to the top of the world! The team accomplished between 12 and 19km a day and it took them just eight days to reach the North Pole.
On his blog, Ed says: “At 17:30 on 21 April 2016 we reached the geographical North Pole. An incredible journey over the frozen Arctic Ocean to a spot where every direction is south and you can walk around the world in a few seconds. It has been an experience that will live with me forever.”
Ed, who is now back in St Albans with his family, has raised nearly £46,000! This will be split between four charities, one of which is Rennie Grove, and his fundraisers have included a Polar Bear plunge on New Year’s Day and a Snow Ball at St Albans Town Hall.
Gillian Barnett, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at Rennie Grove Hospice Care, said: “We’re really grateful to Ed for choosing us as one of his charities and are delighted that he completed his challenge. His initial fundraising goal was £30,000, so he has well and truly exceeded expectations and we would like to say a huge thank you to Ed and everyone who has supported him.”
