More than 70 people swam, cycled and ran at the annual Mayor’s City Sprint Triathlon on Sunday May 15 at Westminster Lodge – Everyone Active in St Albans. It marked the penultimate initiative in Cllr Salih Gaygusuz’s calendar of events during his mayoral year, with his final fundraiser taking place later that evening: a ‘goodbye meal’ at Bar Meze.
During the year, the Mayor hosted a whole range of events and initiatives to raise funds for his chosen charities, including the Harry Smith Bar Reunion, a Golf Day and a Ball.
Rennie Grove Community Fundraising Manager, Nicola MacKinnon said: “We are so grateful to the Mayor of St Albans for his fantastic support. He has helped us in so many ways, not only raising thousands of pounds towards our patient care but also raising vital awareness of our service in the local community. As well as hosting a range of his own events, he joined us at some of our own in the neighbourhood, including our first-ever Colour Blast run with Westminster Lodge – Everyone Active where he braved the blue powder paint floating on the breeze to hand out medals!”
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Mayor’s Triathlon at the weekend – and to Sainsbury’s in St Albans who donated 100 bananas for participants! Watch this space for details of the 2017 event.
