The second annual Hemel 10K and 1.5K superhero fun run is coming to town this weekend (Sunday 10 July), raising funds for Rennie Grove Hospice Care. The charity is reminding people to sign up online by midday on Friday 8 July before registration closes.
Back by popular demand after its launch last year, the sponsored run starts and finishes at Astley Cooper School, Hemel Hempstead. The 10K, open to participants aged 14 and over, follows a challenging multi-terrain route and chip timing offers everyone the chance to try and set a personal best. The 1.5K fun run is open to all ages (a parent or guardian must be present on site) and participants can dress up as their favourite superhero, with a prize for the best outfit on the day.
Participants are encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as they can to support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Herts and Bucks, and in 2015 the event raised a fantastic £25,000.
Rosalind Lee from Tring signed up last year with her children, Arthur (aged 9) and Joe (aged 6). She said: “The boys had so much fun and really enjoyed getting dressed up as Batman and Ironman. They were thrilled with the medal at the end too!”
Spectators are welcome at the family-friendly event so even if you don’t want to don your running shoes or your superhero costume then bring the kids along to soak up the atmosphere. There’ll be a burger van, ice cream van and a bouncy castle – as well as the Rennie Grove roadshow offering selfies with charity mascot Rennie Bear and the chance to create a piece of community art.
It is £20 to enter the 10K in advance (£25 on the day), which includes chip timing, a technical t-shirt, a medal, water station and snacks at the finish line. It costs just £5 to enter the 1.5K fun run and under 5s can take part for free.
Find out more, view a route map, and sign up before midday on 8 July at www.renniegrove.org/hemel10k or call 01442 820740. On-the-day entries (£25 for the 10K, £5 for the fun run) will be accepted at Astley Cooper School before 9:30am.
