As a patient, you experience the services that Rennie Grove Hospice Care provide, as a carer you witness the services they provide to help your loved one through their illness and as a doctor, you understand how the services are vital to both patients and their families and you also know, perhaps better than anyone, how important raising funds for Rennie Grove is if they are to continue to be able to offer their services in the future.
Dr James Murphy and Dr Keen-Wei Hui, GP’s at the Amersham Health Centre, have rallied a team of doctors, partners, receptionists and nurses to tackle Rennie Grove’s latest and most inventive fundraiser to date; Colour Blast: The Scramble. Dr Murphy said, “Everyone here at the health centre values the work that Rennie Grove Hospice Care does. We work with the Rennie Grove nurses on a daily basis; their approach to work is always professional and dedicated, a quality that we as healthcare professionals and the patients value.”
Rennie Grove provides 24/7 responsive end-of-life care to local patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families. Dr Murphy continues, “It was Dr Hui’s idea to take part in the event initially. She saw it as a great opportunity to engage with the local community as well as help to raise funds for such a fantastic, local service. We currently have about 40 people entering who are connected to the surgery and we are hoping to raise about £1000. When I suggested it to the staff it was welcomed with open arms and within a few days we had a full team. I was really pleased with how well it was received as many of us haven’t done anything like this before, but it sounds fun and we are all looking forward to taking part.”
The Amersham Health Centre are also hosting a Flu Clinic on Thursday 29 September, which is a themed event offering flu jabs for patients at higher risk of contracting the virus. They will be encouraging people to donate to Rennie Grove Hospice Care throughout the day.
