Rennie Grove Hospice Care is writing to its supporters in St Albans and surrounding areas, offering them the chance to create a lasting memorial to loved ones on its Path of Life while supporting other local families in need.
The Path of Life is a brick path that curves around Grove House and through the tranquil gardens. This year bricks are being gradually replaced by granite stones engraved with special messages to loved ones. Designed to be a walk of encouragement for those who are facing a tough journey, messages reflect the supportive atmosphere synonymous with the services offered by Rennie Grove. Current messages include: ‘You were there for me always’; ‘Beautiful, precious friend to so many’; ‘Husband, Father, Brother. Forever in our hearts’; ‘Never gave up, with us always, forever friends’; ‘Don't worry, be happy’; ‘Our little star’.
Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Gillian Barnett, said: “There are no specific criteria for being able to dedicate a message. You might choose to remember the life of a loved one who is no longer with us or celebrate the life of someone special who is currently being cared for by Rennie Grove. All we ask is that your message is positive and uplifting so that families facing difficult times can find comfort in your words. Your donation covers the cost of laying your personalised stone and goes towards providing specialist care at Grove House and in patients’ homes.”
Kevin Stephens chose to dedicate a stone in memory of his wife, Loraine, who received care and support at Grove House after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Kevin explained: “Loraine was a wonderful gardener who enjoyed nature, appreciated the simple things in life and who loved helping people. The Path of Life seemed a fitting place to recognise her life in a way that we hope provides inspiration and peace to others. It certainly has to us.”
