Two hospice at home nurses are planning to support the charity for which they work in a brand new fundraising challenge this summer. On Sunday 9 July, Tessa Mannering and Sadie Hall will take to the skies in Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s first ever sponsored Wing Walk.
Tessa, who lives in Haddenham and is based at the charity’s Chalfont office, says: “I’m a nurse in the Wycombe team at Rennie Grove, who operate a unique model of 24/7 responsive care in patients’ homes. As a former district nurse, I really appreciate the way Rennie Grove’s service encompasses aspects of community care alongside specialist palliative nursing for patients with cancer or another life-limiting illness.
“I enjoy working closely with patients and their families, providing symptom control, care and support for them at a very difficult time in their lives. Caring for people in their own home enables them to continue living their life in the way that they choose with respect and dignity and is both a great privilege and very rewarding.
“I wanted to do something a bit different to support the provision of that service, which is all offered at no cost to patients or their families. I feel very excited about the wing walk and can’t wait to do it - but am sure the nerves will kick in nearer the time and lead to a bit of anxiety!”
Sadie Hall also works on Rennie Grove’s Wycombe team as a clinical nurse specialist, visiting patients in their own homes to help manage symptoms and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Her motivation is similar to Tessa’s: “It is a privilege to be involved with patients and their families at a very difficult time in their lives. Caring for people in their own home enables them to continue living their life, with their loved ones around them. The wing walk is a way we can prove just how much we value the service Rennie Grove offers and appreciate the part we have to play in providing it. Please sponsor us if you can!”
