Tickets have gone on sale for Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s musical extravaganza in conjunction with the Rock Choir: ‘Sounds around the Abbey’, which will take place from Monday July 24 to Saturday 29.
Hosted by TV presenter Pam Rhodes, the event brings six consecutive nights of fantastic, feel-good music to the city’s majestic cathedral, raising funds for local families affected by cancer and other life-limiting illness.
West End star, Kerry Ellis – who has played lead roles in Les Miserables, Wicked, Oliver! and Cats – features as soloist alongside former Rockabella, Lizzie Deane. Locally renowned Rock Choir conductors, Pippa Gearing and Abigail Harris, will lead choirs performing pieces ranging from pop, rock and chart songs to opera favourites.
Accompanied each night by a professional live band, the Rock Choirs will cover some of the most uplifting and feel-good songs ever written, giving them the dynamic energy, stunning harmonies and contemporary edge that has become the Rock Choir’s hallmark.
Rennie Grove’s Treasurer, Chris Langford, is overseeing the series of special concerts, having masterminded the inaugural event in 2015 to mark Rennie Grove’s 30th anniversary. “I jumped at the chance to do it again,” he said. “It is such a stunning venue – visually and acoustically. It’s the perfect location to showcase our local Rock Choirs’ beautiful harmonies. Each evening will be a really uplifting experience so I urge people to book their seats now to avoid disappointment.”
Local Rock Choirs will feature as follows:
Monday 24 July - Welwyn & Dunstable
Tuesday 25 July - Watford & St Albans
Wednesday 26 July - St Albans
Thursday 27 July - Hemel & Welwyn
Friday 28 July - Hertford
Saturday 29 July - Amersham & Welwyn
The event is being sponsored by Real D, Taylor Walton Solicitors and Orion Financial Management, with The Print Shop in St Albans kindly covering the cost of printing the programmes. Production Manager at the print Shop, Liam Shutes, said: “Rennie Grove cared for my dad, David. I’m happy to help ensure as much money as possible goes directly towards the charity’s fantastic nursing service.”
Tickets are priced £30, £25 and £20 (concessions for children under 16) and are available to buy online at www.stalbanscathedral.org, over the phone on 01727 890290 or in person from St Albans Cathedral.
