Age is just a number

Running Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Hemel 10k on Sunday 9 July is HarpendenJulian Parker resident, Julian Parker. This energetic individual took up long distance running when he retired at 70 years old;

“I try to do between 7k and 10k twice a week. This is the first time I have entered a sponsored running event and it will be interesting to participate in something new. I think running for a good cause like Rennie Grove provides an added incentive to do your best as well as raise as much as you can.”

“My wife, Christine used to work as a physio at the St Albans Hospital over the road from Grove House, so she was aware of the services that Rennie Grove provided in the local community.  When she retired she became a volunteer gardener at Grove House, helping out every other Thursday.  She has been volunteering there for 10 years now!  It was Christine that saw the Hemel 10k being advertised at Grove House and suggested I take part.”

As well as 24/7 responsive Hospice at Home care across the Herts and Bucks area, Rennie Grove provide a range of Day Services at Grove House, St Albans that offer practical care and support for local patients diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illness.  The money raised from taking part in events such as the Hemel 10k will go towards funding this service, which is offered at no cost to patients and their families.

Join Julian at the start line on Sunday 9 July for a multi-terrain 10k route through the surrounding countryside or get the kids involved in a 1.5k fun run dressed as their favourite superhero character! Sign up here.
