Patient asks people to keep giving generously

Rennie Grove Hospice Care is writing to its supporters this week with an emotionalLinda with Jenny appeal that comes straight from the heart.

Linda Ablett is a mum and grandmother who has led a full and busy life with her husband and sons. The couple plan to celebrate their golden wedding with family and friends later this year. However, Linda was diagnosed with cancer some years ago and, sadly, her condition has become terminal.  She hopes her story will inspire people to donate £25 to fund an hour of Rennie Grove Hospice Care “to care for others in my community after I am gone”.

This spirited 71-year-old has many things she is determined to achieve despite her prognosis; a last trip to the Lake District with girlfriends, another chance to perform with her choir and sharing Christmas with all the family when it will also be her 50th wedding anniversary. She also hopes to witness the results of her call for fundraising for Rennie Grove to ensure as many people as possible benefit from the nursing and support that have helped her deal with her illness.

Linda says she has been able to find the strength to face the difficult times that lie ahead thanks to Rennie Grove nurses like Jenny, who care for Linda’s medical needs, keeping her as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Jenny has also sat and talked patiently with Linda about her hopes and fears, helping her to plan her final days and beyond.

“I am so lucky to be receiving this brilliant, professional hospice care, which I can count on 24 hours a day,” said Linda. “And it makes such a difference knowing that I don’t have to worry about paying for this vital help because Jenny is one of Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Hospice at Home nurses whose time is paid for by the donations local people like you make.” The generosity of Rennie Grove fundraisers “has already made a difference to my life in a very real sense,” she said.

And in a heartfelt plea on behalf of others who may one day find themselves in her situation, Linda said: “Could you help pay £25 for an hour’s care by a Rennie Grove Hospice at Home nurse for someone like me?

“It won’t be me that benefits from your generosity, not this time. But, by supporting Rennie Grove Hospice Care we can make sure that Jenny and her colleagues can be there for another family like mine or yours who needs their help in the future.”

Image of Linda Jenny described Linda’s positivity as inspirational, adding: “Linda is able to face the reality of her life coming to an end, but many cannot. I’m here to help them and their loved ones achieve the most they possibly can.

“The generous donations made by local people keep me and my colleagues nursing. They ensure that people in our community, like Linda, have someone they can turn to at any time of the day or night.”
