Preparations are well under way for the 12th annual Herts 10K, Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s flagship fundraising event, which takes place on Sunday 8 October.
Around 2,000 people are expected to gather for the starter’s gun in the grounds of Rothamsted Research in Harpenden and then run, jog or walk the multi-terrain route through the autumn countryside.
They will be raising valuable sponsorship along the way to help fund Rennie Grove’s care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Herts and Bucks. Rennie Grove staff and volunteers will marshal the course and be on hand throughout the day to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Making a very welcome return to the annual event is award-winning local business Plowman Craven, which has dug deep with a £4,000 donation and is also entering its own team of runners.
“We are delighted to once again be the gold sponsors of the Herts 10K and look forward to raising as much money as possible to help contribute further to this fabulous cause,” said Plowman Craven Managing Director, Andy Molloy.
Last year the Harpenden based firm of measurement and surveying specialists fielded a team of 20 runners and raised just over £2,700. “As a company, we had a lot of fun with the training and fundraising and it really did help to create a great sense of community in the office as we all worked towards our fundraising and race-time goals,” said Andy.
“As a prominent local company that has been based in Harpenden for more than 30 years, supporting events like the Herts 10K is fundamental to our belief of contributing to our wider community. Rennie Grove provides amazing care for local patients affected by cancer and other life-limiting illness, which is something we all relate to and feel moved to help support.”
The Plowman Craven team training is inspired by work colleague Jon Little, who is a UK Athletics qualified leader in running fitness.
“Training is well under way. Jon Little has once again started the training plan and there is a definite improvement and confidence among those who ran last year,” said Andy, who added that the company hopes to boost its sponsorship donation to Rennie Grove funds with a company raffle and treasure hunt.
“We’re looking forward to the race immensely and wish everyone taking part the very best of luck.”
