It’s a busy time of year for Santa who is hoping for lots of ‘little helpers’ to accompany his festive float during its traditional tour of Tring and surrounding villages in the nights before Christmas.
Volunteers are needed to join the teams of elves who help Father Christmas as he travels in and around the town on his brightly-lit float, collecting for Rennie Grove Hospice Care.
Help is in such short supply this year that some of the planned evenings may have to be cancelled, which will disappoint households that miss out on this pre-Christmas treat and diminish the door-to-door collections that help fund the charity’s nursing care and support for local families with cancer and other life-limiting conditions.
Amber Stubbings who has volunteered before said, “It really gets you into the Christmas spirit. Seeing how excited the kids are as Santa makes his way down their road - with Christmas songs playing – is really quite magical. You get a real sense of community from the residents in Tring and the surrounding villages and it makes you feel proud to be volunteering for such a worthwhile cause. People have given very generously in the past, helping the Santa Float to raise between £4,000 and £5,000 each year.”
Volunteers are needed for just a couple of hours, from 5.45pm on any of the dates and places listed below. Elf hats, tabards and collections buckets are provided.

“It’s a really lovely atmosphere,” said Rennie Grove Senior Community Fundraiser Louise Hewitt.
“The Santa Float is covered in Christmas lights and there’s music playing. The children and older people too are always really pleased to see us and are full of smiles and come out of their houses as we arrive.
“We rely on our volunteers and really can’t do this event without them,” she added.
