Rennie Grove Hospice Care is looking for people who want to change their lifestyles in 2018 by taking part in its Biggest Loser fundraising campaign.
Starting in January, the Biggest Loser is a 12-week health and well-being programme that offers participants the opportunity to get fitter and healthier whilst raising funds for this important local charity.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care provides care and support for adults and children diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illness and their families. Every year through its responsive 24/7 Hospice at Home service, Family Support services and range of Day Services at Grove House we give thousands of patients the choice to stay at home, surrounded by their families and friends.
Big Loser participants will have access to gym facilities, exercise classes, personal trainers and nutritional advice, in return for raising sponsorship to support Rennie Grove and the vital services it provides to the local community.
The Rennie Grove Biggest Loser will be the person who loses the highest percentage of body fat by the end of the 12 weeks.
The programme includes:
- 12 week free gym membership at one of three Places for People sports centres – High Wycombe, Marlow and Princes Risborough
- Access to personal trainers
- Regular weigh-ins to monitor your progress
- Nutritional advice from Holly Miles Nutrition
- Fundraising tips and support from the Rennie Grove team
- Prizes – including spa treatments, annual gym memberships and more
It’s free to apply and participants must raise a minimum of £500 sponsorship for Rennie Grove.
Sonia Workman was Rennie Grove’s Biggest Loser in 2015 and says it was an enjoyable and positive experience, well-supported by everyone involved. “I signed up as I was fed up with getting bigger and bigger and feeling unhealthy. I was also worried about being a bad role model for my son,” she says.
“I listened to all the advice that the nutritionist provided, hit the gym and took up running and cycling. I told myself that I must be determined and my mantra was ‘don’t think, just do’!
“I kept motivated as I decided to fundraise in honour of my friend’s brother who had passed away. And once I started to see and feel the difference in myself then this was motivating too.”
Sonia has maintained a healthy weight because she has learned what works best for her in terms of what she eats. She has also set – and achieved – some challenging goals, such as running up the BT Tower, walking all 16 London bridges and taking part in her first marathon.
“If you've been trying to get fitter and healthier but have been struggling to motivate yourself, this could be the programme you need,” said Gillian Barnett, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Rennie Grove.
“What better incentive than the knowledge that your success will also make a huge difference to local patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses and their families? We also have some fantastic prizes on offer for our most successful losers.”
