A team from Hightown Housing Association picked a sunny day to spend the morning volunteering in the garden at Grove House – home to Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s day services - in St Albans recently.
Hightown offers its staff a range of volunteering opportunities throughout the year and Alison Firth, David Skinner, Rita Effeyota and George Edkins - who all share a passion for gardening - chose to work in the garden at Grove House and put their gardening skills to good use.
David Skinner, Director of Finance at Hightown said: “I really enjoyed helping with the garden at Grove House. It was very rewarding and a refreshing change from sitting in front of numbers in spreadsheets all morning. I hope that the visitors get some pleasure out of my planting in the months ahead. The excellent weather helped too.”
Alison Firth, Development Manager at Hightown added: “I really enjoyed my time volunteering at Grove House yesterday too. The garden is beautiful and a credit to Sue and her team of volunteer gardeners. The experience was enhanced as the sun was shining.”
Fenella Campa, Volunteering Development Advisor at Rennie Grove said: “We were so pleased that the team from Hightown chose to spend a morning volunteering in the garden at Grove House. Working alongside Sue Hobley who is our voluntary head gardener, they did a fantastic job.
“If there are any other organisations or individuals who would like to find out more about volunteering for Rennie Grove we would be delighted to hear from them. Please get in touch on 01707 731000 or firstname.lastname@example.org.”
We're offering you the opportunity to visit the beautiful grounds of Grove House and to enjoy some tea and cake whilst you’re there.
Our “Cake in the Garden” event is taking place on Sunday 10 June between 2 and 5pm and as well as being able to wander through the garden there will be cakes, plants and other items on sale too. Grove House and its garden has good access for all levels of mobility as well as onsite parking.
