Our Moonlight Walk returns to St Albans on Saturday 15 September 2018. The new 10 mile route around St Albans promises ‘a night to remember’ and offers the perfect way for friends and families to celebrate the lives of loved ones.
The route starts and finishes at Westminster Lodge, Holywell Hill, St Albans, AL1 2DL and as part of the route, walkers will be taken through the grounds of Grove House, Rennie Grove’s day service, that is adjacent to St Albans City Hospital. Here there will be the opportunity to place a padlock as a symbol of remembrance on a memory fence. There will also be hot chocolate available to warm up walkers before completing the walk by midnight.
One of the women who will be stepping out in support of the our services is Samantha Howlett who will be completing the walk with her cousins Sophie Moore and Katie Thorne in memory of Samantha’s mum, Karen Howlett.
“I signed up to do the Moonlight Walk so I could help give something back to Rennie Grove after they provided fantastic care to my mum and supported the rest of the family through such a difficult time,” Samantha said: “Mum was sadly taken from us in September 2017 after a very short but courageous battle with cancer.
“I feel that others should consider joining the walk and help raise money for Rennie Grove because they provide amazing care and support to people going through the hardest times in their lives. Because of Rennie Grove and their 24/7 responsive care, people like mum get to spend their last weeks in their own homes surrounded by their families and people they love and this in itself is so very important. I'm so thankful to Rennie Grove that we had the extra time with mum at home.
“The nurses that came to visit mum were brilliant. They gave brilliant care, answered any questions we had and continued to keep mum upbeat and laughing. They even called to check on us after mum had sadly passed away.
“You never get as much time with the ones you love as you think you are owed, but Rennie Grove's work gives you that little bit extra with them.
“Every penny we raise will go towards helping this charity to continue the amazing work they do. It won’t bring my mum back, but it will help so many others by giving them the chance to be at home with their loved ones. To allow them to feel normal, to feel content, to feel comfortable during the worst times of their lives
“Mum was such a fun loving, caring person. She was just as loving, supportive and full of laughter as always, right up until the end. Her courage, determination and sense of humor is something we will always carry with us. We remember mum for all that she was. Her laugh, her smile, the way she lit up any room she walked into and the way she was always the life and soul of any party.
“I will miss mum for the rest of my life, but she's left me with a beautiful gift: her positive attitude, her passion for life and her unconditional love. We walk in memory of an awesome woman - my mum.”
