The ever-popular Jingle Bell Jog is making a festive return to St Albans on Sunday 2 December – but the usual splash of red Santa suits will this year make way for a swarm of elves, reindeers, snowflakes and stars as participants are invited to wear their own Christmas jumper or outfit for the big day.
This lively annual 5K jog and 1.5K fun run in aid of local hospice care is becoming as traditional as holly, crackers and mince pies in the city centre’s run up to Christmas, and always attracts droves of participants of all ages, including tots in pushchairs.
Proceeds go towards the care and support of local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families.
“The Jingle Bell Jog and Fun Run is always and great event for all the family, and we are always very pleased to see so many people taking part together and enjoying themselves while also raising valuable sponsorship for Rennie Grove,” said Kate Grigg, Head of Supporter Fundraising.
“This year will be even more colourful as we hope everyone will dig out their favourite Christmas jumper or outfit, add their festive accessories and give them a run-out alongside scores of others. Why not visit one of Rennie Grove’s local charity shops to donate your old Christmas jumper and perhaps pick up a different one to ring the changes this year? We will provide Santa hats for older participants and reindeer antlers for the fun runners. It should be quite a spectacle!” she added.
Entry for all-comers costs slightly less than last year. The Jingle Bell Jog is £8 for the 10-15 years age range and £12 for 16 years and over. Participants will be able to keep their Santa hat or antlers as a memento of the day, and everyone will receive a medal.
