Transforming Grove House – appeal for your support

Our appeal to raise £1 million to redevelop Grove House - our building in St Albans - launches today. The aim of the appeal is to raise enough money to transform Grove House into a community hub that delivers services in the local community to all those living with a life-limiting illness.

Stewart Marks, our Chief Executive at explains: “Since Grove House opened in 1993, the needs of the local community have changed and we are struggling to deliver the services needed in the spaces available. We need to offer a wider range of services to support people from the point of diagnosis, and ensure Grove House is fit for purpose for the future.

“We have ambitious plans including trebling the space available by reconfiguring the internal area; expanding our range of services for patients, families, and carers; creating facilities to provide services the children and young adults we care for; making services accessible to all by opening in the evening and at weekends and creating an education suite to deliver first class training and development for Rennie Grove staff and other healthcare professionals.

“The number of people needing our support has increased, and the type of services they need has changed considerably, and will continue to change. We need to have a space to offer support to more people, and have the flexibility to deliver the services required.

“People live longer with life-limiting illness, so support needs to be available from the point of diagnosis to help them live well, and manage their illness.

“By 2025 it is predicted that there will be 4,100 people aged 65+ with a life-limiting illness in Hertfordshire. We currently care for around 900. This is a huge increase and does not include those younger people who are diagnosed and need our support too.

“We currently care for children at home, but have no facilities to offer services at Grove House for either them, or their families. We need to be able to do this to support families who feel isolated and alone.

“In order to achieve all this we must raise £1 million for the redevelopment work and are appealing for the support of the community, local businesses and individual donors to help us.

“Please help us to make this possible by donating at renniegrove.org/GHappeal, sending a cheque to Rennie Grove, Grove House, Waverley Road, St Albans, AL3 5QX made payable to Rennie Grove and marked on the envelope as Grove House Appeal or calling 01727 731028 to make a card donation.

“Thank you so much for your support.”
