Lynne Tucker works as a Healthcare Assistant in our Wycombe nursing team. She visits patients whose condition is stable, providing all-important personal care and respite support for family members – using her experience and skills in caring to support patients in their choice to remain at home.
“I feel immensely privileged to have the chance to make a difference to families at what must be such a difficult time for them,” says Lynne. “As Healthcare Assistants we are honoured to be able to help people to live as independently as they possibly can so they can get on with living their life surrounded by their loved ones.”
Lynne visits three to four patients every day, building a lasting rapport that has a real impact on the patient and their family. Fiona describes how much Lynne’s visits meant to her and her mum, Elizabeth.
Fiona’s mum, Elizabeth, had suspected ovarian cancer which spread to her liver. Her initial prognosis in 2015 was just six to nine months, but she defied the odds and lived independently in her little cottage for another two-and-a-half years, supported for the last 12 months by regular visits from Rennie Grove’s Healthcare Assistants.
“Practical help is so important – it’s what people really need when they’re faced with a diagnosis like Mum’s. Cancer can leave people so exhausted and the help from the Healthcare Assistants meant she could preserve the little energy she had to enjoy life.
