I joined this wonderful organisation just over a year ago and every day feel a sense of pride in being able to lead a team providing the very best care for people with life-limiting illnesses in our local community.
We believe that everyone should have the choice to be cared for at home and our hospice at home nursing teams make this a reality every day by visiting local people at home, day and night, to provide the specialist care they need towards the end of life.
Grove House in St Albans is an integral part of the services we provide in west Hertfordshire. In addition to providing a base for the local hospice at home team, the building is home to a range of day activities and clinics to help people live the best quality of life they can, right from diagnosis.
But we are facing a significant problem.
Since Grove House opened its doors in 1993 the needs of the local community have changed and we are struggling to deliver the services needed in the spaces that are available in the building. In order to care for more people earlier in their illness we need to offer a wider range of services for adults, children and their families. To do this we need to reconfigure and refurbish the building so that it is fit for purpose for today and in the years ahead.
We have worked with experts to plan how the building could work best to meet the needs of local people and we now need to raise £1million to carry out the project.
We have secured support from trusts and grants for some specific items of work which are being scheduled, but we need your help now to ensure we can reach our target of £1milion to complete the refurbishment.
We have been very fortunate to secure the help of a specialist team to manage the project for us, meaning we can concentrate on ensuring that disruption to our services is minimised.
We are so proud of the difference we are already making to local families, but know that we must develop and grow if we are to continue providing the best possible care in the future.
That’s why we’re asking for your support today to help us transform Grove House into a centre of excellence for palliative and end-of-life care, giving everyone in the local community the chance to live well for as long as they have.
How could you help us?
